Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points which are located on or near the surface of the skin. The original (and ancient) theory behind Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is that the healthy functioning of the body is governed by the flow of “qi” (often translated as “energy”) through a system of channels under the skin. When this flow of qi is impaired, illness occurs. By inserting fine needles at various points along the channels, the body’s balance can be restored and the illness resolved.
Research has shown that in fact these points have high concentrations of nerve endings, lymphatics and capillaries, all capable of triggering biochemical and physiological changes in the body. Acupuncture can release neurotransmitters and endorphins, the body’s natural pain-killing hormones.
During your initial consultation with Rebecca you will have an in depth discussion regarding your presenting condition as well as a comprehensive case history of your health history. During this time you will also discuss your goals for treatment and develop a specific timeline for your own personal healing.
If you require herbal prescriptions this can also be discussed and prescribed during this time. If you only require herbal medicine this can be booked as a specific ‘herbal consult’.
